On Fridays from 17.00 we learn how to do paper cuttings, print stamps of woodcarving.
Klaidas Navickas, who is folk artist and creator of art, presents paper cuttings, woodcarving and stamp making art.
Educational programme of paper cuttings art and primitive graphics is implemented. There are no any special requirements for adults and children.
History and presentation of activity
Zemaitija is considered as a centre of folk carving. People carved and printed in the whole Zemaitija, but the school of woodcarvings of Zemaiciu Kalvarija was the most popular as well as masters from Darbenai and Kretinga counties. Religious were accumulated some "tables", but they sold them to the Poles in the beginning of XIX century.
The prototypes of carving subjects were often saint pictures of unknown authors and copies of works of more famous artists from Europe. Saint pictures were carved especially willingly, these pictures were considered as miraculous, thousands of prayers travelled to wake of these saints.
From 2002 K. Navickas participates in the programme of fine crafts, ethnographical trades and fairs of Vilnius City Municipality. Together with other programme participants he participates in cultural events of Vilnius city. Cultural events are these: Vilnius Days, festival "Balticum", Kaziukas fairs in Tymas square; educational programmes. He welcomes schoolchildren in his gallery and people who are interested in folk art, he presents a history of paper cuttings and carvings, its topic and technique, he gives a possibility to try papercutting and stamp pressing practically.
K. Navickas has presented his art of paper cuttings and exhibited his works in world exhibition "EXPO-2005" which took place in Japan in 2005.
