Club of Vilnius craft reconstructors
"Court Artisans"
St. Mykolo
str. 12-1, Vilnius
History and presentation of activity
The core of the
club consists of an affinity group
established in the first Castle
Festival (Pilies
festivalis) in 2006. In 2009 the
club was registered.
The club unifies
the artisans reconstructing
historical crafts.
The main aims are
to study and reconstruct ancient
crafts and technologies as well as
to spread
the heritage of Vilnius artisans.
The core reconstruction data
contains archaeological, historical
and iconography information from
and on the
Palace of the Grand Dukes of
Lithuania (the Lower Castle of
Vilnius). It is known, that
Lithuanian Grand Dukes had bought
and ordered things from local
artisans. Thus the main attention
has been focused on studying and
reconstructing local, i. e. Vilnius'
craft technologies.
The club unifies
greatly experienced and dedicated
artisans and scholars. Among them
there are two doctors and a doctoral
student of Humanities (history),
three first-category restorers and
two expert-specialists of estate
heritage preservation.
The artisans wear
stylized Renaissance clothing
reconstructions created by the club
member Daiva Steponavičienė (Hum.
Dr.), which investigates the
features of Lithuanian society and
Grand Duke court in the Middle Ages
and Renaissance.
The club members
often take part in Vilnius
activities, such as The
Castle Festival, The
Days of the Capital,TheKaziukas Fair, in Trakai
TheMiddle Age Feast,
TheDay of Crafts, the
Museum night projects, as well
as various festivals and feasts in
other towns and cities. The club
also organizes and takes part in
exhibitions.
The club is
located in St. Mykolo 12-1. Since
the middle of
January
2010 an
exhibition of reconstructions and
educational activities are planned
to be opened for visitors.
